On Saturday, May 7 2016, at the 17th Ghana Music Awards, where Wizkid was named the African Artiste of The Year, he announced a new formation: the rebirth of his record label (Starboy Records) as Starboy Entertainment Worldwide. He also announced new signees, all of whom are Ghanaian, to join him and L.A.X as label mates. They are: R2bees, Efya and Mr Eazi.
However, who are these new signees?
A Ghanaian group comprising of Faisal Hakeem (Paedae da Pralem) (C.E.O of the group) and Rashid Mugeez (Mugeez) (the lead vocalist). They are cousins who grew up and lived together as they also attended the same primary, junior and senior secondary school. They released their first single, ‘Yawa Gal’ in August of 2008 and haven’t looked back. They have 2 albums to their name and are one of the topmost artistes in Ghana. So popular, their music video for ‘Gboza’ with Davido, has over a million views. In 2013, they were nominated in the Best International Act category, at the BET Awards but lost to Ice Prince. The name R2Bees (R2 Bees) was coined from the group’s mantra which is ‘Refuse to be broke.

Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor is known as Efya and is recognized for her dominant genre of music, neo-soul. She started out in the Ghanaian entertainment industry in 2008 but only gained proper traction in 2011, when she signed her second record deal and from that year up until 2014, she won the Best Female Vocal Performance category at the Ghana Music Awards. Wiyaala broke her streak in 2015. A gifted vocalist.

Mr Eazi has a distinct sound, which he has dubbed “Banku Music” (A subset of Afrobeats) and it’s a casual, mellow and sultry-esque sound that’s influenced by Ghanaian and Nigerian elements. He is relatively a new comer but one with a lot of potential to put out hits. His primary and secondary school education were in Nigeria but he went to university in Ghana.
